Spidey-senses tingle at theories

In February of 2021, Marvel finally revealed the title for the new addition to the “Spider-Man” series: Spider-Man: No Way Home and, after seeing the first trailer, fans have been coming up with countless theories and speculations about what will happen with the new movie.

Marvel’s new “Spider-Man” series starring Tom Holland has become very popular among the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) fandom. There have been two prior movies titled Spider-Man: Homecoming and Spider-Man: Far from Home. Fans were originally a bit skeptical about a new Spider-Man series since the first two, starring Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield, are so beloved by the fandom. However, once Spider-Man: Homecoming hit the theaters, Tom Holland’s Spider-Man was an instant hit. The first movie took a new approach to the series by not showing any of Spider-Man’s origin story but instead throwing the viewer right into the action. Featuring new and old characters alike and a spectacular cast, the movie remains one of my favorite Marvel movies out there.

Ever since Spider-Man: No Way Home was announced in February, there have been tons of theories made by fans about what might happen in the movie. The main topic of most of them is the multiverse, an idea that has been shown in many other Marvel movies and has been a theme in Spider-Man movies and shows in the past. This idea was developed by the first trailer, where it shows a spell going wrong with Doctor Strange that seemingly opens up many alternate universes and shows all the villains from the old movies appearing to take down Peter Parker. The appearance of the past villains has led a lot of people to theorize that the old Peter Parker actors will appear to help Holland fight the villains. I have seen an analysis of the most recent trailer that shows places that Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield may have been edited out to keep it a surprise for the viewers.

On Nov. 16, the newest trailer for Spider-Man: No Way Home came out and brought forward answers along with even more questions. This new peek into the movie showed off more details about the old villains, displaying five unique villains from the old movies. It showed Doctor Ock, Sandman, Lizard, Green Goblin and Electro. It seems as if this new movie will be a showdown of all the old villains against every generation of Spider-Man which sounds amazing. There was a feature in the trailer where it seems like Holland is faced with the fact that he will have to kill the villains to put them back in their dimension and he has problems coming to terms with that. I wouldn’t be surprised if that becomes a theme in the movie and leads to problems being caused by him being scared to take out the villains.

I believe that this movie will be a huge success even if it doesn’t turn out that great. Just having the Marvel tag on a movie makes it guaranteed to sell millions of tickets and the Spider-Man fandom is huge. I think Spider-Man: No Way Home will be a great movie and a perfect trilogy ending for the new Spider-Man series. Having the crossover of all the old movies to end off the series would be a perfect way to finish it, and I don’t think it will be necessary to make a fourth addition.

Tom Holland’s “Spider-Man” series has been amazing so far and is my favorite of the three movie series. I’m very excited to see what new action and creative ideas Spider-Man: No Way Home brings to the theater on Dec. 17.
